ReachOut welcomes two new Board Directors, in support of the mental health of young people across the country

Leading digital youth mental health organisation, ReachOut, is excited to announce the appointment of two new Board Directors - Claire Beattie and Emily Qiao

A proud First Nations woman, Claire, brings a wealth of experience across roles in senior government, corporate and not-for-profit boards. She is currently the Executive for Small Business Digital at NAB and has over 21 years of experience in various government agencies, including Transport, Communities and Justice, Treasury, and Education. 

Emily is a young person and is currently a Customer Engineer and AI Specialist at Google Cloud. In this role, she has been instrumental in educating clients and practitioner communities on AI adoption and implementation, developing and expanding AI initiatives, webinars, and workshops.

ReachOut Board Chair, Michael Gonski, said he is pleased to welcome the incoming Board Directors.  

“ReachOut is currently well-positioned for growth and development and the Board has an important role to play in that journey. 

“Claire’s diverse experience will strengthen ReachOut’s ability to support First Nations young people and their communities. And, Emily's youth perspective and expertise in digital will be instrumental as ReachOut continues to explore how we leverage new technology to support young people’s mental health.

“Both Claire and Emily will play a critical role in ReachOut’s strategic direction and we look forward to working with them,” he said. 

Emily is ReachOut’s first participant in The Observership Program, which offers young people the opportunity to join a structured Board Director program designed to provide invaluable real-life experience and mentorship.

Bios

Emily Qiao

Emily is an energetic leader and engineer with a passionate belief in the transformative power of AI and technology for people. As a Customer Engineer and AI Specialist at Google Cloud, Emily empowers Digital Native customers to achieve their business goals, guiding them through the implementation of cutting-edge cloud technologies from proof-of-concepts to full-scale implementation. Across the APAC region, Emily has been instrumental in educating clients and practitioner communities on AI adoption and implementation, developing and expanding AI initiatives, webinars, and workshops.

Emily's commitment to diversity and societal change is reflected through her time working with not-for-profit organisations. She was previously the Chief Operating Officer at Robogals, where she directed the strategic vision of over 30 chapters worldwide to engage, empower, and encourage young students to pursue careers in STEM. Her leadership experience further spans across her role as the Chief Executive Officer for Monash Carbon Capture and Conversion, where she led and built teams in the development of sustainable technologies that foster carbon removal, and as the National Finance Officer for UN Youth Australia to support the financial management of the organisation. Emily is currently the Treasurer at the Australian Refugee Volunteers. 

Claire Beattie

Claire is a proud First Nations woman and is the Executive for Small Business Digital at NAB. Claire’s career has also included experience as a prominent senior NSW Public Servant with over 21 years of experience in government across agencies such as Transport, Department of Communities and Justice, Treasury and Education. Claire believes in being the change and making a difference in everything she does and is deeply committed to serving NAB customers ensuring that their economic aspirations are supported and achieved. Claire has held non- Executive Director roles on many not-for-profit boards such as the Women and Girls Emergency Centre in Redfern, Macquarie University’s Fire to Flourish, National Indigenous Disaster Resilience, and is a member of the Cultural Diversity Committee with Women on Boards.

Claire holds qualifications in Education, Law, Psychology, Project Management, Disability Services, Social Work, Leadership and Management, Workplace Training and Assessment, Executive Coaching and Traffic Engineering. Claire has been the recipient of high-profile commendations including winning and being a finalist in the NSW Premier’s Awards (multiple awards from 2012-2024), winner of Resilience NSW and National Resilience Award 2024, winner of NSW Indigenous Chamber of Commerce Infrastructure Person of the year in 2023, a Finalist in the Australian of the Year and Young Australian of the Year Awards and Finalist in the Women’s Agenda Awards.
