Youth Involvement

ReachOut’s Youth Ambassadors are integral to what we do. These legendary volunteers from across Australia share their lived experience of overcoming mental health challenges like bullying, future stress, toxic friendships and relationship issues to help people better understand the way mental health impacts young people. Youth Ambassadors play a key role in spreading awareness, breaking down stigma and giving context to the way ReachOut’s services support young people and families across Australia. While 2021 presented another difficult year when it came to engaging in events and activities with partners, we were able to collaborate with our partners and Youth Ambassadors in new and diverse ways.

Future Generation Global

Working with our long-term partner Future Generation Global, our Youth Ambassadors demonstrated the postive impact have on the lives of young people in Australia through sharing stories of lived experience.

Mental Health Month Webinar

Working with the Stockland CARE Foundation as part of Mental Health Month, our Youth Ambassadors got a chance to sit down with Adam Spencer to discuss the importance of connection. With the long-term effects of COVID-19 continuing to be felt across Australia, this webinar provided viewers with the tools to reflect on their experiences and build connections in their communities.

5 Ways to Wellbeing

ReachOut is dedicated to supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our partner's staff through our 5 Ways to Wellbeing framework. This framework encourages people to better understand the areas that can help improve their wellbeing: connection, mindfulness, learning, giving and moving.

With the support of our Youth Ambassadors, we have brought this framework to life across many of our partnerships, adapting it to suit their specific needs.

Wear It Purple Day

A high proportion of ReachOut’s service users identify as LGBTQIA+. This community is at a much higher risk of experiencing mental health challenges compared to their peers.

We were delighted to work with Life Without Barriers for their Wear It Purple Day event, with our Youth Ambassador, Kai, sharing their experience of identity, gender and mental health.
