Leading digital youth mental health service, ReachOut, is today announcing the launch of its new Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
The launch of this new RAP highlights ReachOut’s renewed commitment to reconciliation and builds on the organisation’s work to strengthen its relationship with First Nations peoples and communities.
The RAP will see ReachOut continue to use its platform to drive reconciliation within its sphere of influence. It will also encourage deep listening and learning with First Nations communities, enabling ReachOut to develop culturally safe social and emotional wellbeing services for young First Nations people.
Karen Cashman, the Senior Manager for Aboriginal Social and Emotional Wellbeing at ReachOut and the lead on this project, says that this new RAP will be centered around strengthening existing relationships and establishing new ones.
“We recognise the importance of working in partnership with First Nations peoples to ensure that our services and our work environment are inclusive and culturally safe. We are committed to listening to, learning from and embedding cultural knowledge and ways of working into our organisation and this RAP will guide us in doing so.”
Gary Groves, CEO at ReachOut, says this new RAP is a crucial element in the organisation’s ongoing journey towards meaningful change.
“ReachOut has always been committed to a safe and inclusive Australia for all people. Since the launch of our first RAP in 2016, we have expanded on this commitment and taken significant steps to ensuring our workplace and our services are culturally safe.
“Throughout this work, we have engaged First Nations young people, experts and community members, allowing us to learn, reflect and grow as an organisation. This new RAP enables us to continue doing so, ultimately allowing us to enhance our support for First Nations young people and their families.
"Having worked with First Nations communities for many years, I am incredibly proud to join ReachOut at this pivotal moment. As we begin implementing our new Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), we are deeply committed to advancing this crucial work towards reconciliation."
