This week 220,000 young Australians will receive their year 12 results, signifying the end of a milestone and the beginning of the next. ReachOut.com, the leading e-mental health service helping young Australians through tough times, knows this period can be both stressful and exciting as students make plans for life after year 12.
Building on ReachOut.com’s “There’s Life After Year 12 Exams” campaign, where prominent Australians shared their stories of life after year 12 exams, we want to remind year 12 students that their marks do not define who they are and that things have a funny way of working themselves out.
ReachOut.com’s CEO, Jono Nicholas said, “Getting your results can be an unsettling time. If you didn’t get the results you had hoped for, chances are life will take you in different and interesting directions. Regardless of your mark there’s plenty of life after Year 12.”
Most prominent Australians in the “There’s Life After Year 12 Exams” campaign said they were unnecessarily worried during year 12. Many changed their intended career path to other exciting opportunities that they couldn’t have imagined back then.
“Making career choices is new for young Australians, so it’s important that family and friends remind them that there are places they can reach out to – as many have gone through the same experiences. This is particularly important as 80% of young Australians admitted in a recent survey that stress has an impact on their physical and mental wellbeing” said Nicholas.
We need to remind young Australians that year 12 results are not the ‘be-all and end-all’ thing that determines their life. These results are just the beginning of many great things to come.
ReachOut.com invites all Australians to share their message of support this December. Reach out to a young Australian receiving their results this month and let them know that there’s life after year 12 by sharing a video from thereslifeafter.org, or create your own video using the hashtag #thereslifeafter
