ReachOut joins Twitter Trust and Safety Council

25 Feb 2016
ReachOut is one of four Australian organisations to be named inaugural members of the Twitter Trust and Safety Council, charged with helping Twitter ensure that people can express themselves confidently and safely.

ReachOut Australia CEO Jono Nicholas said: ‘With young Australians spending 27 hours on social media each week, it’s important that platforms are working to ensure a safe and positive environment.

‘The Twitter Trust & Safety Council has been established for this very purpose and we’re delighted to offer our knowledge of young people’s mental health to help guide the development of tools and policies at Twitter.’

ReachOut joins the Twitter Council alongside Bravehearts, beyondblue and Project Rockit, three other organisations charged with helping Twitter prevent harassment and cyberbullying on the social network.

The appointment recognises ReachOut’s long history of working with young people not just through ReachOut.com, but through innovative mental health and wellbeing campaigns on social media. ReachOut has nearly 47,000 followers, making it one of the most-followed Australian mental health organisations on Twitter.
