Scouts Victoria supports ReachOut for Scout Shout

04 Oct 2017
Scouts Victoria is calling for every one of more than 400 local Scout groups to hold a fundraiser as part of the 2017 Scout Shout, with the proceeds to be donated to ReachOut Australia.

Scout Shout is a new program designed to get Scout Groups more involved in their community. It’s based on the Scout Law, which every Scout recites when they join Scouting. Glen Vernal, Chairman of Scouts Victoria State Youth Council, says that part of the law is helping other people, so that’s what Scout Shout is all about.

‘Scout Shout is about young people helping other young people in need, so we looked for a charity that focuses on young people. Mental health and wellbeing is a significant issue for young people, so we chose to support ReachOut,’ says Glen.

‘We hope to raise awareness of ReachOut and how its services can support young people.’

For ReachOut, the Scouts fundraiser is particularly excellent because young people are behind it. ReachOut CEO Jono Nicholas said, ‘It’s great to have young people themselves raising awareness and funds for ReachOut. Thanks to Scout Shout 2017, many more young people will get help from ReachOut, taking us one step closer to helping an extra million people by 2020.’

Scout Shout will run during the first four weeks of Term 4 (9 October – 5 November 2017). To get your Scout Section involved, simply organise a fundraising event and email scoutshout@scoutsvictoria.com.au about it.
