After significant research and development with our university partners and support from the Young and Well Cooperative Research Centre, The Toolbox and Link (working title) will soon be live on ReachOut.com, making simpler help pathways available to the thousands of young Australians who visit ReachOut every day.
‘These new tools are the result of a highly collaborative approach, where young people contributed alongside university researchers, mental health professionals and the ReachOut team,’ said ReachOut CEO Jono Nicholas. ‘Working like this is incredibly important to us because it allows us to combine the evidence behind what works with what young people want and need.’
Available later this year, The Toolbox houses more than 50 mental health and wellbeing apps, including ReachOut WorryTime and ReachOut Breathe. Everything in The Toolbox is rated and reviewed by a panel of mental health professionals and young people for credibility, look and feel, functionality and engagement. The Toolbox responds to young people’s needs by recommending apps that can help them achieve wellbeing goals, such as finding ways to reduce stress or develop positive thought habits.
Link is an online self-assessment tool that makes it simple for young people to recognise and understand the issues they’re experiencing, and to find the most suitable support. It’s designed to put young people in control of their help-seeking journey, and efficiently connect them to mental health resources and services that suit their situation. Currently in the final stages of testing, Link will be available from ReachOut.com in 2016.
‘These tools are a great example of how we can use technology to improve help pathways for young people. Ultimately, The Toolbox and Link will make it possible for us to deliver effective help to even more young Australians, and we’re excited to integrate them into the ReachOut service,’ added Nicholas.
