ReachOut CEO Jono Nicholas says he’s excited that ReachOut will be one of the first organisations to partner with The Minerva Collective, a new initiative that’s using data to help realise powerful social impact projects.
Launched on Tuesday, The Minerva Collective – a project conceived by Data Republic – will help create social impact projects by linking not-for-profit organisations to anonymised data from government or commercial organisations, and pro-bono support from skilled analysts.
Mr Nicholas said that ReachOut and Minerva are exploring how they can use data to connect young people with help sooner
“We’re working with The Minerva Collective to develop a data-driven approach to targeting young people experiencing a tough time, or those most at risk. We hope this will allow us to reach young Australians earlier in their symptom development and ultimately save lives.
“We’re excited to be collaborating with Minerva. When 7 in 10 young people who need mental health support don’t get it, we need to find new ways of harnessing technology and data to reach young people where they are.”
Head of The Minerva Collective, Whitney Komor said, “We are aiming to lead the data for social good movement in Australia, with ambitions to drive a global ecosystem where not-for-profits, analysts and organisations willing to donate data can connect and use data to drive social good.
“From deepening understanding of why a social problem exists to targeting early intervention solutions to those in need; our data projects will help NFPs to innovate in their pursuit of change.”
