Guns and threatening violence, not the leadership we need

19 Feb 2018
ReachOut CEO Jono Nicholas today said he was stunned to see social media images of Nationals MP George Christensen posing holding a gun and threatening violence.

“To do that off the back of 17 children and teaching staff being shot at a high school in the US and a current government inquiry into cyberbullying, is disturbing and offensive,” Mr Nicholas said

“At the same time we are saying to our children that they need to be respectful online, we have a community leader doing the opposite.”

“Politicians need to show leadership and it’s hypocritical to ask our kids to behave well online if we are not willing to hold ourselves to the same standard.”

In the wake of media reports about cyberbullying and events in the US, ReachOut has made information, tools and our forums available to support young people and their parents.
