Fundraising event, Corners for Kids, will support Inspire in 2013 for the 14th time since it started. The event is our most long standing fundraiser and plays a massive role in enabling us to reach even more young people.
We caught up with Brian Thomas, founder of the event, to talk about how it all came about and what it means to the people involved.
What first motivated you to fundraise for Inspire?
"We were chatting in a pub (where many good ideas start) and realised we all worked in Financial Services and had a common passion on Motorcycles – The concept was simple; Why not combine the potential fundraising ability of financial services leaders and also support a great charity like Inspire!"
What do you like most about the Corners for Kids event?
"The camaraderie of the riders and the reaction when we interact with the media at the country towns and tell them why we are riding – it never ceases to amaze me how many people have been touched by youth depression and suicide issues personally. Riding on some of the best motorcycling roads in Australia is also hard to beat!"
Is there anything you're doing different this year?
"It’s a great formula that we tend to stick to – next year will most likely be an overseas ride for our 15th anniversary."
How does it feel knowing your event helps young people get help for their mental health?
"We were all brought to tears (yes grown men and women in tough bikie gear!) with the personal  story of a youth ambassador last year who started the ride with an explanation of her battle with depression and what Inspire has meant to her – it’s a nice feeling to help a little bit."
From everyone here at Inspire - THANK YOU - to the organisers and participants of Corners for Kids. We are so grateful for the support from this amazing group of people.
This year's Corners for Kids event will take place 7 - 13 March. You can support the team by donating here.
