ReachOut Encourages Young People to Prepare for the Holiday Season

20 Dec 2017
ReachOut Australia is reminding young Australians to prepare for the upcoming holiday season, particularly managing stressful situations.

ReachOut CEO, Jono Nicholas, said that the holiday season can be a challenging time, and people are often stressed and tired towards the end of the year. This can be aggravated by a load of additional events, costs, and expectations.

Heading to ReachOut.com can help you get through the holidays.

“It can be useful to take some time out to plan how you’ll get through the holidays,” Mr Nicholas said.

“We know December can be pretty stressful- especially having to manage family, work and social events.

“It’s a good idea to have a plan to manage stressful situations before it gets too much- whether it’s going for a walk, chatting to a mate or just taking some time out, you know what works best for you.

“It’s also important to be kind to yourself over the holidays, including remembering the good things from the year rather than focusing on the bad. Perhaps connecting with that friend you’ve been meaning to get in touch with all year?

“ReachOut.com has great advice on how to deal with the holidays, including mobile apps like WorryTime and ReachOut Breathe to help manage anxiety and get you through tough situations.

“If you’re finding it hard to cope with day-to-day stuff, then it’s time to get a little extra advice. Our mates at headspace (1800 650 890), and Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800) and Lifeline (13 11 14) have counselors available 24 hours a day,” he concluded.
